Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2026
Bucharest, 03.-05.03.2026
The ReBORN project was presented at Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2026 in Bucharest, Romania’s leading exhibition for renewable energy and environmental technologies. The project was represented by the Steinbeis Danube Center together with its project partners, engaging with visitors from industry, research and public institutions to showcase innovative approaches for sustainable construction and the use of natural building materials.
Romania’s Leading Expo for Green Technologies
Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2026 took place from 3–5 March 2026 at the Romexpo Exhibition Centre in Bucharest, bringing together companies, research organisations, public authorities and investors working on solutions for the green transition. The exhibition is one of the most important regional platforms dedicated to renewable energy, environmental protection, water management, waste management and sustainable urban development.
With over 250 companies from 22 countries and more than 750 represented brands, the event attracted thousands of professional visitors interested in innovative technologies and partnerships supporting sustainable infrastructure and energy systems.
In addition to the exhibition, the programme included several high-level conferences such as the Green Energy Summit, the Circular Economy Conference, and the International Environment Forum, where policymakers, industry leaders and researchers discussed the future of energy systems, smart cities and sustainable development.
ReBORN Project Presented at the Exhibition Stand
The ReBORN project was presented to visitors at the exhibition stand of the Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development (DDNI). Together with project partners, our Steinbeis Danube Center engaged with professionals from industry, research institutions and public authorities to introduce the project’s approach to sustainable and energy-efficient construction.
The discussions focused on innovative solutions for reducing the carbon footprint of buildings, in particular through the use of locally sourced natural materials such as reed and hemp. Visitors were introduced to the project’s objective of promoting climate-neutral building practices and strengthening professional capacities in the construction sector.
The presence at the expo also provided an opportunity to present related initiatives and research activities, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation between Romania, Croatia and Germany in advancing sustainable construction technologies and supporting the transition toward zero-emission buildings.
Throughout the event, the stand became a meeting point for dialogue with stakeholders interested in innovative building materials, sustainable infrastructure and climate-friendly construction solutions, creating valuable opportunities for networking and future collaboration.
ReBORN-Team Engaging with Visitors and Stakeholders
Throughout the exhibition, the ReBORN stand was actively supported by a team of experienced researchers and project experts who engaged with visitors, presented project results and discussed practical applications of sustainable construction solutions.
The team combined expertise in energy-efficient buildings, research and innovation, and technology transfer, ensuring a well-rounded dialogue with stakeholders from different sectors.
Experts present at the stand included:
- Horia Petran – Senior Researcher at URBAN-INCERC and President of the pRO-nZEB Cluster, contributing extensive expertise in nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) and energy performance in construction
- Roxana Boboruta – Deputy General Manager of Steinbeis Transfer Management Romania and Senior Project Manager at Steinbeis Danube Center, responsible for stakeholder engagement and project implementation
- Edward Bratfanof – Director of the Technological Information Center, Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development
- Matei Simionov – Researcher/Engineer, Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development
- Bogdan Gheorghe – Scientific Research Assistant, Danube Delta National Institute for Research and Development
The presence of both research institutions and technology transfer organisations enabled in-depth discussions with visitors on topics such as natural building materials, energy-efficient construction and pathways toward climate-neutral buildings.
The stand served as an open platform for exchange, where stakeholders from industry, public authorities and academia explored opportunities for collaboration and the practical implementation of innovative solutions in the construction sector.
ReBORN: Accelerating Sustainable Construction in Europe
The EUKI-funded ReBORN project promotes climate-neutral construction solutions by advancing the use of locally sourced natural materials such as reed and hemp. Through research, capacity building and international cooperation, the project supports the transition from Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) to Zero Emission Buildings (ZEB) in Romania and Croatia.
The project is financed by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI), a funding instrument of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). EUKI supports cross-border cooperation and innovative projects that contribute to achieving European climate targets and accelerating the transition toward a climate-neutral economy.
High-Level Dialogue and Strategic Exchange
In addition to the exhibition, Green Energy Expo & Romenvirotec 2026 featured a comprehensive programme of conferences and expert forums, including the Green Energy Summit, the Circular Economy Conference, and the International Environment Forum. These sessions addressed key topics such as energy transition, smart cities, circular economy and sustainable infrastructure development, providing a platform for in-depth exchange between stakeholders.
The event served as an important networking and collaboration hub, bringing together technology providers, policymakers, municipalities, investors and researchers. This multi-stakeholder environment supported the development of new partnerships and concrete initiatives aimed at advancing sustainable solutions in Romania and across the region.
The opening session gathered high-level representatives from government, local authorities and industry, underlining the strategic importance of accelerating the green transition and strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Key speakers included:
- Diana Buzoianu, Minister of Environment
- Cristian Bușoi, Secretary of State, Ministry of Energy
- Paul Moldovan, Mayor of Sector 6, Bucharest
- Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica
In her remarks, the Minister of Environment emphasized the urgency of Romania’s transition toward a sustainable and circular economy, highlighting the need for stronger environmental policies, expanded renewable energy solutions and improved resource management. She also stressed the role of platforms such as this expo in fostering partnerships that enable the practical implementation of innovative technologies and environmental solutions.
