Mediterranean Logistic Start-ups

Promotion of Logistics Start-ups in the Mediterranean Region

The Mediterranean region, particularly North Africa and the southern coast, is experiencing dynamic economic growth and increasing technological enthusiasm. This region offers fertile ground for logistics startups that utilise innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data analytics to increase the efficiency of supply chains. Examples of successful startups were presented at the MEDA Logistics Week panel discussion, including HEDYLA, ESTOKO and LOXBOX Services, all of which have achieved significant improvements in logistics transparency and cost reduction.

I was delighted to accept the invitation to MEDA Logitics Week to give insights into my work promoting start-ups in Barcelona.

— Juergen Raizner

Start-up Projects of our Steinbeis Center

During the panel discussion, SDC Director Raizner shared with the participants insights from projects such as ifempoer (a project to promote female entrepreneurship), TechStartups Azerbaijan (a project to foster the development of tech startups in rural areas) and Early Innovators (a project to create an entrepreneurial mindset among youth).

Need for Robust Support Systems

For sustainable innovation and constant growth, startups need robust support systems. A key point of Raizner’s contribution was the need to establish centres of excellence, particularly in academic institutions. These centres serve as incubators for innovation and provide startups with access to cutting-edge resources, mentors and industry contacts. Through such initiatives, emerging companies can not only tap into technical expertise, but also enter into valuable research collaborations.

Promoting an Entrepreneurial Mindset at an Early Stage

Another key aspect of the discussion was the importance of fostering an entrepreneurial mindset from the early stages of education. In Romania, more than 4,000 young people have already taken part in the Early Innovators business plan competition. The model is transferable to the Mediterranean region. Early encouragement is essential to cultivate a vibrant entrepreneurial culture, which is fundamental to the long-term growth and competitiveness of the Mediterranean economy.
