Strengthening East-West Cooperation: Personal Engagement in Ukraine – Even in Times of War

Our commitment in Ukraine: personal contacts and local support

From November 2024 to January 2025, I had the privilege of traveling extensively across Ukraine to deepen and expand our commitment to the region. My visits included cities such as Lviv, Uzhhorod, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khotyn, Ternopil, Vinnytsia, Bila Tserkva, and Kyiv. The objective of these journeys was clear: to establish and nurture robust relationships with key stakeholders, including mayors, parliamentarians, regional governments, and universities. These actors are pivotal for fostering sustainable economic and social partnerships.

The Value of Personal Connections

In challenging times like those Ukraine is currently facing, personal connections are invaluable. Face-to-face meetings build trust, enhance mutual understanding, and allow for a clearer identification of specific needs and opportunities. Visiting these cities, even amidst ongoing conflict, sends a powerful message of solidarity and commitment. It demonstrates that we are not merely passive observers but active participants willing to take responsibility and offer support where it is most needed.

Why Being Present Matters

Ukraine is in a period of profound transformation, grappling with the devastating effects of war. Yet, the resilience and innovative spirit displayed by local administrations and businesses are nothing short of inspiring. Our visits provided a firsthand look at this dynamism and helped pinpoint tangible opportunities for collaboration. Discussions with entrepreneurs and factory visits were integral to our agenda, offering insights into the local industrial landscape and its challenges.

Cities as Bridges to the Future

Each city we visited has its unique story, strengths, and potential. From the cultural heritage of Khotyn to the economic vibrancy of Bila Tserkva, every interaction underscored why Ukraine remains a crucial long-term partner. Collaboration with universities and regional governments, in particular, opens doors to sustainable projects that bolster local economies while fostering international cooperation.

Vocational schools also played a central role in our visits. These institutions are critical for developing skilled labor forces and significantly enhance the attractiveness of cities as production hubs. Strengthening ties with vocational schools lays the groundwork for sustainable economic growth and improves regional competitiveness.

Identifying Production Opportunities in Ukraine
A core focus of our efforts is identifying suitable production sites in Ukraine. Now is the time to lay the foundation for successful collaborations with the country. Despite current challenges, Ukraine offers immense potential for economic partnerships and investment. Our on-the-ground discussions and observations reveal a strong willingness to cooperate and numerous opportunities to prepare for a shared future.

A Commitment to Long-Term Vision

Our engagement in Ukraine is more than a short-term project; it is a testament to partnership, resilience, and shared development. The personal connections we have established and strengthened over recent months form the cornerstone of a trusted collaboration, paving the way for investments, innovations, and economic stability – even in difficult times.

Through these visits, we are making a clear statement: Ukraine is not alone. We stand by its side – today and in the future.
